Dear friends and supporters – I am writing with a heavy heart to inform you that due to unsafe weather, the 2012 Emery Awards scheduled for Monday, October 29 is CANCELLED.

As the single largest fundraising event for HMI, this was not an easy decision to make, and we are heartbroken that the amazing evening we had planned will not go on but we must remain focused on the safety of our young people, our volunteers, our staff and of course YOU.

Hurricane Sandy’s impact is expected to be at its worst on Monday evening. The State of New York and New York City have issued a state of emergency and will begin shutting down public transportation beginning at 7pm Sunday evening lasting through the expected storm surge on Monday night.

Please take all necessary precautions to keep you and your loved ones safe. You can find the most up-to-date information about the storm and public safety alerts online at http://www.nyc.gov.

HMI deeply appreciates your support for the 2012 Emery Awards and we will certainly follow up with you in the coming weeks with more information.

Sincerely,

Thomas Krever
Executive Director
Hetrick-Martin Institute
