“Believing in the impossible and making it a reality is the central theme of Diamond Dreams”by Jeff Dorta
photos courtesy of Aiden Leslie
“I believe everything starts with an idea”, says pop artist Aiden Leslie of his latest single, Diamond Dreams
. The new remixes by Klubjumpers, Tim Letteer, Julian Marsh, Joe Mancuso, The All Nighters and Mike Degen has been released to iTunes and major music retailers via ASHEA Records. The song depicts the life journey Leslie launched six days after his high school graduation. He left his sleepy hometown in Ohio for the bright lights of the big city of New York to become the music performer he is today. “When you begin to visualize what you want, then you can create a plan of action to make it real” he explains.
Believing in the impossible and making it a reality is the core theme of Diamond Dreams, however the song also reveals some of the pitfalls Leslie has encountered along the way.
“For a long time, I looked away from love or sought it from people that would never return it,” he admits. “Like so many people, I was afraid to let people in.”
In Diamond Dreams
, Leslie rejoins his producer on “Trying to Leave Now”, Mike Degen. Degen encouraged Leslie to bare his soul in the record. “Sharing experiences can be powerful,” continues Leslie. “It helps me to express myself, and it may help someone else too.”
He’s excited to reach a new audience with the remixes. “I always feel remixes are the other story of a song that have yet to be told” he says. “It’s like sharing the next chapter.”
Of course, he won’t admit to having a favorite. “Every remix that I choose is there because I love it,” he says. However, he does point out that he loves the energy of the Klubjumpers club mix. “You will see me performing it live in the coming months!” he adds.
After a two-year of self-imposed hiatus from music, Aiden Leslie blasted on to the pop charts early last year with “Worlds Away”, a song about the death of his beloved sister. It climbed to the top spot on the club music retail site, Masterbeat.com. It’s music video also reached the #1 position on MTV LOGO’s “The Click List”, where it remained for four consecutive weeks.
He returned last fall with “Trying to Leave Now,” a song he wrote about a relationship he was forced to leave even though his feelings were still strong and alive.
Aiden Leslie’s diamond dreams are different today than what they were in the beginning of his journey. “Today, I dream for something bigger. I dream that I will never settle for what I know in my heart to be true, even if it means I must make hard sacrifices.”
He feels blessed and looks back fondly at the long road he has traveled since graduating high school. “In the end, all of what you do in your life makes you who you are,” he says. “Why not celebrate it and reach for the dreams that inspire you? You only have one go-around to make it happen.”

Country singer Steve Grand with his new music video for his single "All-American Boy" is getting the the Internet buzz he always wanted, but this time everyone labeling the musician as the first openly gay country singer.
On July 2, Grand released the video on his Facebook page
saying "after all these years...this is my song. my story. my dream."
Without a manager or record label or any sort, and no money to produce a record Steve Grand used the tip money he made playing piano downtown at The Joynt, and at the churches on Sunday morning... and produce this single all by himself, all alone.. "We'll see how long I'll be singing “Glory to God” should this video see the light of day."
"Anything you can give is a huge help to me." This is the story I've been aching to tell my most of my life.
Showing off his ripped physique Steve Grand tells us his story of falling in love for his hunky friend. After sharing a bottle of whiskey, spending some intimate time together, taking of his shirt and skinny dipping, it’s clear, Grand’s character has a bad case of puppy love. The clips shows Grand and the dude finally kissing in a lake but Grand’s all-American boy just wants to be friends.
"It's time to be brave... I am taking a risk here in many ways, but really there is no choice but to be brave. To not tell this story is to let my soul die,” Steve
wrote on his Facebook. “It is all I believe in. It is all I hold dear. We have all longed for someone we can never have… we all have felt that ache for our #allamericanboy.”
The video touched so many fans all across the internet leaving Grand speechless. "I am so overwhelmed right now I don’t even know what to say... reading your comments and messages about how this song/video has brought back memories or tugged at something inside of you has moved me deeply."
And he is doing his best to respond to as many fans as he can. "Forgive me if I am late or miss over something since I am going at this alone," he writes. "Keep sharing the video if you are inspired. Let's let our story be known by the whole world! I cannot thank you enough for supporting me... I’ve dreamed about this all of my life."

Tylan’s Kickstarter’s campaign for her new album One True Thing created a tremendous buzz and raised nearly $47,000 from 760 backers in 30 days. This was the second highest grossing Kickstarter campaign ever in the history of the folk/country category.
This successful Kickstarter campaign helped Tylan make her dream a reality. After five studio albums and ten years on the road (which she would preffered to do less) with the internationally and acclaimed folk-pop quartet Girlyman, Tylan is returning to her roots with her debut stunning solo CD, One True Thing due out on June 18, 2013.
For a long time Tylan wanted to create an intimate solo album that is more raw and exposed. “There’s something about the raw, lyric-driven acoustic experience that has always appealed to me. I like the idea of having very little between the song and the listener. That’s where I come from.”
Working with producer Michael Connolly, the two were able to create this stripped-down sound, using a guitar, piano, Hammond organ, upright bass, cello, and the drums of fellow Girlyman member JJ Jones. “Michael is very good at creating an orchestra with just a few instruments and leaving lots of space for the song to come through.”
The first single on her solo album, "Already Fine," is a slow-burn acoustic duet with Amy Ray from The Indigo Girls, and highlights Tylan's introspective lyrics and strong vocals. Girlyman's first CDs were released on Ray's Daemon Records label, and Tylan credits Ray for taking the band "under her wing."
One True Thing is a solid example of a chilled-out personal journey led by a singer-songwriter with a passion for verbal expression and a subtle voice which adds power to the lyrics. Tylan is definitely worth watching out for contemporary American folk music, and for a great talent as a lyrical singer and acomplished songwriter.
When it comes to sexual orientation and gender indentity, Tylan describes herself as "very, very gay. I have always been out, and I love that is becoming fashionable to be out," she says. Her sexual orientation never created a negative impact on her music career, but her gender expression and her previous band named Girlyman did.
The term "Girlyman" might fit Tylan perfectly — or not at all. She is neither particularly girly nor a man, and yet she also blends the two.
"My gender expression is pretty masculine. I generally wear a jacket and tie," she says. "I think through the years, some people thought, 'That music is not for me,' but other people — who are either queer or open-minded or heard the music first — were drawn in and realized that it doesn't matter what people look like; it's great when people look different, and not everyone has to look the same."
After a difficult year following the break-up of a 16 years relationship coupled with the decision to end Girlyman, Tylan is happy again. Living in Sonoma, CA with her girlfriend, Ingrid, who is part of her band, life couldn’t be better. They are on the road together sharing with us the one thing they love most––their music.
